What is an enterprise social network?

An enterprise social network (ESN) is an internal platform that borrows the codes of social media — a feed, profiles, comments, groups — to foster communication, sharing, and collaboration among employees.

In French the acronym is RSE, not to be confused with the other “RSE” (responsabilité sociétale des entreprises, i.e. corporate social responsibility): here the acronym names the tool. It emphasizes horizontality and employee participation, beyond one-way top-down broadcasting.
