What is a deskless worker?
A “deskless” worker is an employee with no desk or dedicated computer, whose job is done on the move or at a place of service: kitchen, guest floors, warehouse, store, the road, a healthcare facility.
Long underserved by internal tools designed for office staff, this population makes up most of the workforce in services and industry. There is still no official French translation; the term salarié déconnecté is also used.
According to BCG (“Making Work Work Better for Deskless Workers,” Dec. 2022), 70 to 80% of the global workforce is “deskless”; 37% of French deskless workers would consider leaving their job.
